School Board announces promotions

The Suffolk School Board approved three new administrators during its June meeting last week.

Rodney Brown was named director of human resources. He held the same position for Southampton County Schools in the past school year and was also as director and coordinator of instruction from 2003 to 2015. Previously he was a principal, assistant principal and special education teacher, having started his career with Southampton in 1994. He earned his bachelor’s and his master’s degrees from Norfolk State University.  He replaces Dr. Suzanne Rice, who has been promoted to Assistant Superintendent for Student Services.

Lorri Banks has been promoted to principal at Kilby Shores Elementary School, replacing Lori Mounie, who will now be principal at Booker T. Washington Elementary School. Banks has been an assistant principal at Kilby Shores Elementary School (2014-16) and also served in that role at Nansemond Parkway Elementary School (2009-14) and Oakland Elementary School (2003-09). Previously, she served as an elementary SOL specialist and elementary teacher in Newport News Public Schools and as a high school teacher in Hampton Public Schools. She earned her bachelor’s and her master’s degrees from Hampton University.

Mounie is moving to Booker T. Washington Elementary School, replacing David Reitz.  She has been principal at Kilby Shores Elementary since January 2012.

Shawn Green has been promoted to principal at John Yeates Middle School. He will replace Daniel O’Leary, who was named principal at Nansemond River High School. He has been an assistant principal at King’s Fork High School (2015-16) and John Yeates Middle School (2007-15). Green also served as a technology resource teacher at John Yeates Middle School (2005-07) and as a business education teacher at King’s Fork Middle School (2002-05). He earned his bachelor’s degree from Norfolk State University and his master’s degree from Old Dominion University.
