City announces July 4 closures

In observance of Independence Day, all Suffolk city offices will be closed on July 4, with some exceptions.

Normal operations will resume on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.

All Suffolk libraries and Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed on Monday. In addition, all Planet Recreation sites will be closed, including Booker T. Washington, Creekside, Mack Benn Jr., Northern Shores, Oakland and Whaleyville Recreation centers.

The Suffolk Transit, Southeastern Public Safety Authority Transfer Station and Regional Landfill will all be closed, as well.

Some facilities will remain open during the holiday.

The Suffolk Visitor Center will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The Suffolk Executive Airport will remain open, but the terminal will be closed.

The Suffolk Public Works Department will pick up trash as scheduled for the week. TFC Recycling will also as run as scheduled. Monday is not a normal pickup day for either.

The Lone Star Lakes, Sleepy Hole and Bennett’s Creek parks will remain open for the holiday. However, there will be no park attendants on duty.

Constant’s Wharf Park & Marina will serve as the site for the city’s annual Stars and Stripes Spectacular.

The park will open at 5:30 p.m. with entertainment, children’s activities and local merchandise and food vendors available to the public. The fireworks show will begin at 9 p.m. and conclude by 9:30 p.m.
