Jerry L. Godwin, 57, of Suffolk, passed away June 19, 2016, at his residence in Hampton. He was born Jan. 8, 1959, in Suffolk, to Ellen Godwin Holloman, raised and lovingly cared for by Ellis L. and Rosa L. Godwin. He was preceded in death by one sister, Bertha Mae Brown, and one brother, Clarence Godwin.

He was a 1978 graduate of John Yeates High School. He was self-employed and owner of J. Godwin Express Trucking.

He leaves to cherish his memory his ex-wife, Kim R. Godwin; two daughters, Shaquanna YT. Godwin and Shawnese R. Godwin, both of Portsmouth; one son, Jerrod M. Godwin, of Portsmouth; sisters, Jessie Copeland (Marvin), of Suffolk, Velma Clark (Sam), of Hampton, Ellen Godwin, Elsie Godwin, both of New York, and Claudine Boone (Claude), of Chesapeake; brothers, Otis Godwin (Peggy), of North Carolina, Ellis Godwin, of Suffolk, and Lorenzo Godwin, of Detroit; 10 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at noon, Friday, July 8, 2016, in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Sylvia Edwards.
