If you’re up and at ‘em early this Saturday, grab your casting rods and bait and head down to Barrett’s Landing in Franklin.
That’s the location where members of the Three Rivers Bass Tournament Series will host a Special Olympics Bass Fishing Tournament Fundraiser. While there will be prizes and drawings for those participating, all proceeds from the event will benefit local Area 29 athletes.
The entry fee is $40 per boat or $50 for boat sponsors, but the event will also offer many free activities for those who aren’t interested in reeling in a bass. Families are encouraged to bring picnic baskets, lawn chairs and blankets to listen to free music by the Louis Waymore Band as it echoes throughout the park.
Forecasts call for a little bit of rain in the morning, but sunny skies and temperatures in the mid- to upper-80s the rest of the day. If you’re still planning out your day, participating in the tournament or stopping by to make a donation is the perfect way to support your local Special Olympic athletes.
If there’s any group that could use your time, talents and energy, fishing-related or otherwise, the Special Olympics is it. This group and its volunteers work hard all year around to ensure local individuals with special needs can participate in sporting events with their peers. These events give them the physical activity, social interaction and confidence everybody needs. If you have anything to give, the group and its athletes sure could use it.
