Folks in need of a job have just the place to go on Friday.

That’s the day the Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority will host its fourth career and job fair at King’s Fork Middle School from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We encourage people to come out and participate,” said Michael Smith, resident services coordinator for the Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority. “They can come in one location and be interviewed by a wide range of companies. It’s very convenient for the job-seeker.”

Smith said companies and organizations from retail, warehouse, manufacturing, banking, public safety, transportation and many more industries will be on site. He expects between 300 and 400 job-seekers to visit looking for work.

“Attendance is pretty good, so the need is still there,” he said. “We’re expecting another good turnout this year.”

While Suffolk unemployment is hovering around 4.3 percent, better than the state average, Smith said the authority still wants to present the opportunity.

“Things are looking up as far as unemployment rate is concerned, but we still want to provide an opportunity for people to seek employment,” he said.

Smith said the authority has partnered with the Suffolk Workforce Development Center this year.

Participants do not need to register in advance but should dress professionally and bring plenty of copies of their resume. Internet access will be available on site should anybody wish to apply for a job opportunity online.

The middle school is located at 350 Kings Fork Road and has plenty of free parking. Call 925-6496 for more information.
