Fire destroys Crittenden home

A fire on Saturday evening destroyed a home on Crittenden Road, displacing a family of five.

A fire on Saturday evening destroyed a home on Crittenden Road, displacing a family of five.

A home was destroyed and a family displaced as a result of a structure fire in the 6800 block of Crittenden Road on Saturday evening.

Emergency dispatchers were called at 6:36 p.m., and firefighters from the Chuckatuck Volunteer Fire Department arrived on the scene at 6:43 p.m. to find heavy fire showing from the front of the single-story ranch home.

The residents — two adults and three children — had escaped from the home before firefighters arrived.

Firefighters initiated “an aggressive fire attack,” according to a press release, but the building was declared a total loss.

There were no injuries, and the fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire.
