Isle of Wight plans business workshops

Isle of Wight County Economic Development is partnering with the Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity to present the free workshop “Selling To The Government – Virginia’s Online Procurement Portal, eVA” from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 16 at the Carrollton Library.
The program will be presented by Kim Madison, marketing and outreach manager with the Virginia Department of General Services.
Owners of small businesses in Isle of Wight and the surrounding communities who are interested in selling their products and services to the commonwealth of Virginia are invited to attend.
eVA is Virginia’s online, electronic procurement system. This web-based vendor registration and purchasing system allows state agencies, colleges, universities and many local governments to conduct all purchasing and sourcing activities for goods and services.
Participants can learn how to use eVA to identify the right business opportunities and government buyers, and they will receive information on B2B Connect, a new feature that helps businesses interested in Virginia contracting opportunities meet, connect and collaborate.
The program will include a vendor’s perspective on purchasing in the commonwealth; a discussion of how buyers use eVA to shop; an explanation of how to navigate the site’s free public reports; and a live demonstration and walk-through of eVA’s public reports.
Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops or tablets.

Following the workshop, one-on-one counseling sessions will be conducted at the Library from 1 to 4 p.m.
Participants will have an opportunity to speak to Angela Barber, business services manager for the Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity, who will provide on-site technical assistance to help business owners grow their businesses and to connect them to resources in Virginia.
