Max Eulace Jenkins

Max “Eastside” Eulace Jenkins, 79, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 16, 2016, at his residence in Suffolk.

He was born on Oct. 11, 1936, to the late Catherine Saunders Jenkins and Booker T. Jenkins. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae Hodges Jenkins; two brothers, Booker L. “B.J.” Jenkins and Bernard Jenkins.

Max was a graduate of Nansemond County Training School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He attended Paul D. Camp Community College. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Base in Portsmouth.

Max was a faithful member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Men’s Fellowship Ministry. He was a member of the Tiger Riders Motorcycle Club, the D.A.V., Club 55 and the Southeastern Biker Association.

He leaves to celebrate his life a devoted nephew, Michael Jenkins; daughter, Minister Syveria “Jeannie” Jordan (James) of Jacksonville, N.C.; 10 grandchildren, Courtney, Meshon, Martin Jr., Mya, Marc, Martinique, Marquis, Marshade, Alaysa and Carla; Martin “Night time” Anderson who was reared as a son of Suffolk; three sisters, Gladys Jenkins and Ellen Jenkins, both of Suffolk, and Sandra Talley of Forestville, Md.; four brothers, Ronald Jenkins (Roxie) of Waldorf, Md., Terry Jenkins (Cathy) of Franklin, Jesse Grant (Patricia) of Effort, Pa., and Larry Grant of Franklin; a devoted friend and caregiver, Claudine Johnson of Suffolk; a special close lifelong friend, Alexander (Sonny) Blizzard of Suffolk; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A wake will be held from 2 to 4p.m. Saturday at Metropolitan Baptist Church, 125 County St. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 6100 Holy Neck Road. The Rev. Dr. William L. Lang will deliver the eulogy. He will be laid to rest at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
