Construction continues to move ahead in the Harbour View area on a new retail service facility and a complex of apartments for senior citizens.
A Discount Tire retailer will be located at 6204 College Drive, adjacent to the Panda Express.
W.H. Bass, a contractor based in Georgia, began construction on the 7,373 square-foot building in early July, according to Sarah Broyles, public relations representative for Richards Partners.
The target completion date is Dec. 15, according to Broyles.
The facility plans to hire between 15 to 20 part-time and full-time employees.
Over on Harbour View Boulevard, Bickford Senior Living is on pace for completion in the spring, officials said.
“It is a nice area, and there has been a lot of growth,” said Jenniffer Westfall, executive director of the Suffolk branch of Bickford Senior Living.
Construction for Bickford began in May, according to Westfall. KBS, a Richmond-based contractor, is heading construction for the project.
The site, located at 6860 Harbor View Blvd., will be a 60-apartment complex for elderly residents. The majority of the units will be designated for assisted living, with the remainder for memory care. Residents suffering from mental ailments such as Alzheimer’s and dementia will be housed in memory care.
“We sought after this need, and so far there has been a good response from the community,” Westfall said.
