No mystery about it

It’s no mystery why folks love Suffolk. But Suffolk has created a little mystery of its own this month with a series of events designed to play on the Suffolk Month of Mystery theme. A few major events remain, along with a few minor ones like free mystery movies. Check www.suffolk-fun.com for details, but here are three of our favorites.

  • The showcase event takes place on Saturday, when the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts hosts the Mystery Authors Festival, a time for fans of suspense, paranormal, romance, women’s fiction and what’s known as “cozy mysteries” to hobnob with a couple of dozen authors, learn a little about the art and craft of writing a book and maybe even get something signed by the next Agatha Christie.
  • Then, on Aug. 18, the Suffolk Public Library and Suffolk Art League will partner for another mysterious event, the Murder Mystery Pizza Party, at the Suffolk Art Gallery. In case you missed the point, this event will include pizza. Participants 16 and up will work to find the perpetrator of a crime from among a cast of unsavory suspects. With pizza. We’re guessing it was Chef Boyardee in the kitchen with a rolling pin.
  • And finally, the Suffolk Center will wrap up this month of mystery with a Casinos and Crooks party on Aug. 27. Guests will enjoy casino games with “funny money,” along with popcorn, heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. As a backdrop to all the fun, the 2001 version of “Ocean’s Eleven” will be playing.

Be sure to check in advance at the Suffolk Tourism website for more information and to learn how to make advance reservations or ticket purchases, as these three events all promise to be especially popular.

And that’s no mystery.
