Barbara B. Keever

Barbara B. Keever, a long-time resident of Midlothian, passed away Saturday, Aug. 13, at Sunny Side Retirement Village in Harrisonburg.

Born in 1936 in Whaleyville to the late Harvey and Willie Baines, Barbara graduated Whaleyville High School and attended Radford College, where she received her Bachelor of Education in 1958. Barbara taught for several school districts in both North Carolina and Virginia.

She was a longstanding member of Salisbury Presbyterian Church in Richmond, was a member of the Salisbury Woman’s Club for many years and served as its president in 1999-2000.

Barbara was a member of the Ut Prosim Society of Virginia Tech along with her husband and volunteered with hospice for many years.

Barbara was a great cook and loved socializing with friends and family. She was an avid reader, enjoyed going to movies and plays with friends, and attending fall football games in Blacksburg.

She had a wonderful smile that could light up a room. She was a great mom, and friend to many.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, Horace “Bud” Alexander Keever. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Shannon Rellins and husband, Don, of Broadway, and her son, Michael Keever and wife, Deana, of Rock Hill, S.C., and grandchildren, Laura and Eva Rellins, of Broadway, Michael and Taylor Keever, of Charlotte, N.C., and Carlie and Patrick, of Rock Hill, S.C.; and nieces Terry, Sharon and Shirley.

A memorial service will be held at Salisbury Presbyterian Church. Details to follow. Memorial contributions can be made to Salisbury Presbyterian Church.
