New shops on the way

Dirt has begun to move in preparation for construction of new retail and office buildings in front of Hampton Inn and Dollar Tree off Godwin Boulevard.
Troy Parker of Parker Burnell Real Estate Group said he is working on securing leases for the spots now.
“I would think we’d have some medical there, with the hospital close by,” Parker said.
The development will feature two buildings, one about 10,000 square feet and the other about 23,000 square feet. Anywhere from 10 to 15 tenants could eventually wind up there, he said.
Passersby should see steel rising from the ground in about 30 days, and Parker hopes to “be in a position to deliver some units” by the first of the year.
Parker’s firm is the same one that developed the Main Street Shoppes on North Main Street, which feature a Subway, Starbucks, Kay Jewelers, Mattress Firm and Navy Federal Credit Union.
“The Centerbrooke Commons project is a well needed and welcome addition to Godwin Boulevard and the central Suffolk area,” Economic Development Director Kevin Hughes stated in an email. “This new retail space will be able to take advantage of the residential growth in the area as well as its great proximity to Route 58.”
