Elnora Hinton Nicholson

Elnora Hinton Nicholson, 82, of Centerbrooke Lane, Suffolk, transitioned on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, at her residence. She was a native of Nansemond County and the daughter of the late Beluh Hill and Noah Hinton. She was preceded in death by her sister, Doritha Fields, and brother, Arcelious “Sonny Boy” Hinton.

She was a graduate of East Suffolk High School and attended Maryland State College. She was employed at Portsmouth Naval Hospital and retired after 20 years of service as a statistical clerk. She was a member of Grove Church, member of the NAACP and a member of Star of Sharon.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Howard L. Nicholson Sr.; daughter, Darlene Gamble-Rollins; two sons, Howard L. Nicholson Jr. (Melvina) and LeNard T. Nicholson (Nicole); four granddaughters, Tamika Nicholson, Jennifer Gamble, Phylicia Sinclair and Lauryn Nicholson; and two great-grandchildren.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, in the Carver Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive guests nightly from 5 to 8 p.m. at 1018 Custis Road, Suffolk.
