Evangeline Miller Mercer, of Barbara Drive, Suffolk, transitioned Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016, at her residence. She was a native of Colerain, N.C., and the daughter of the late Emily Miller Jr. and Florentine P. Miller. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mervyn M. Mercer.

She was a 1961 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. Evangeline retired as a nurse from Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in New York. He was a member of Heaven on Earth Ministries, where she was a member of the Missionary Ministry and the Mother of the Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory one sister, Sadie Miller Murry, of Zuni; one brother, Willie L. Miller; several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church family.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, 2016, at Chapel Grove United Church of Christ, Windsor, officiated by Pastor Carlyle Church and eulogy by Apostle Betty M. Knight. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home.
