Lucy Darden

Bettie Lucille “Lucy” Darden, 73, widow of Jethro Lee Darden, passed away Sept. 22, 2016. A native of the Buckhorn area of Nansemond County, she was a daughter of the late Sherman Wilson McClenny and Virgie Mae Carr McClenny and was predeceased by a brother, Harvey Wilson “Dickie” McClenny.

She was a retired nuclear clerk with Newport News Shipbuilding and was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Billie Jean Lotz (Darin); two sons, Bernard Clements (Penny) and John Dennis Vann Sr. (Amy); two stepsons, Everett A. Darden (Laura) and David Goff; one brother, Ronnie McClenny; six grandchildren, Devin Peavy (who was raised by Lucy and Jethro), Jordan, Brittany, J.D., Ashley and Chelsey; and one great-granddaughter, Alayna; and her beloved dog, Buck.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016, at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Matthew Johnson officiating. The burial will follow at Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society. www.wrightfuneralhome.org.
