Part of medical facility evacuated

Parts of the Bon Secours at Harbour View medical facility were evacuated Friday morning due to the smell of smoke.

The electrical smell in the facility was reported at 10:21 a.m., and the first units arrived on scene at 10:28 a.m., according to a city press release.

Battalion Chief Craig Abraham said crews found smoke in several areas of the building, according to the release. They evacuated parts of the building and were able to isolate the issue to an air-conditioning unit on the roof of the facility.

There was no active fire, and the affected areas were ventilated.

An engine from the Chuckatuck Volunteer Fire Department responded along with Suffolk Fire & Rescue equipment and staff.
