The Suffolk Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance into an accident that happened three weeks ago and left a man dead.

William Arthur “Bill” Bailey died in the accident, but exactly happened remains a mystery.

The accident happened in the 1100 block of Holland Road, near Lipton Tea and Amadas Industries, between midnight and 1 a.m. on Sept. 24.

Deborah Bailey, the victim’s sister, says police told the family that a couple ran over Bailey as he was lying in the road. They stopped and called emergency services.

But, Bailey said, police told the family her brother may have been hit before that, because he had blunt force trauma to his upper torso.

William Bailey was about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, so “he had to have been hit by a taller vehicle,” she said.

Deborah Bailey said the family was not permitted to see her brother, because of the condition his body was in.

“I just want to know who in the world did it,” she said. “I cry every day for this senseless killing of my only siblings. If he had died of natural causes, it would be easier to accept.”

“Police are seeking the public’s assistance as they have exhausted all leads in their ongoing investigation,” city spokeswoman Diana Klink stated in an email.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Suffolk Police Department at 923-2350, extension 0, or 514-7915, and leave a message for Senior Police Officer M. Holman or Master Police Officer D. McLamb.
