Virtley Otelia Holliman, 84, of 11115 Dunston Drive, Windsor, transitioned Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016 at her residence. She was a native of Nansemond County and the daughter of the late William and Mary Elizabeth White Jordan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Holliman Sr., son, Willie Joe Holliman, sisters, Dorothy White and Annie Mae Hilliard, brother, Alton White, and two great-grandchildren, Jeremiah R. Thomas and Sabrina Williams.

She attended Gresham Grady Primary School, Kee Business College and P.D. Pruden School for Nurses’ Aides in 1978. She retired as a caregiver after 30-plus dedicated years. She was a member of Holy Ground Temple of Deliverance, where she was the Mother of the Church, past president of Pastor’s Aide, Usher Board, and Missionary Board and started the Building Fund at King’s Grove Pentecost Church. She was former First Lady of Ivor Temple Pentecostal and former church secretary at both. She was a member of the Virginia Association of Ministers’ Wives.

She leaves to cherish her memory her three daughters, Charleine Lassiter (Shelton), Shelia Warren and Ruth Williams, all of Suffolk; four sons, Arthur Holliman Jr., of Suffolk, Jeffery Holliman, of Windsor, Leffery Holliman (Donna), of Suffolk, Harvey Holliman (Sharon), of Suffolk; daughter-in-law, Barbara Holliman, of Suffolk; six sisters, Eunice Copeland, of Suffolk, Bessie Spratley, of Suffolk, Ethel Whitfield, of Windsor, Maggie Jordan, of Norfolk, Louise Whitehead, of Chesapeake, and Oretha Minggia, of Suffolk; two brothers, William Jordan, of Baltimore, Md., and Larry Jordan, of Suffolk; 24 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; special family John and Jean Moody and children Michelle, John Jr. and Stacey Moody; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016, at Piney Grove Baptist Church, 4901 Deer Path Road, Suffolk. She will be laid to rest in Meadowbrook Memorial Cemetery.
