A Suffolk man on Wednesday entered guilty pleas connected to a murder that took place in March.
Markelyn Lamontre Jones, 18, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, robbery, burglary of a dwelling while armed, and three counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
He was charged in the death of Aaron Lemonte “Poundcake” Hunter, 23, who died on March 11 after being shot at an apartment in the Wilson Pines Apartments in the 2500 block of East Washington Street.
According to documents on file in Suffolk Circuit Court, the shooting happened during a robbery. Jones and 19-year-old Mandocous Jayni Rivers were arrested and charged in connection with the murder.
Jones, who was 17 when the shooting happened, took a plea agreement on what would have been the first day of a two-day trial. Judge Robert H. Sandwich Jr. presided over Wednesday’s hearing.
One of the conditions of the agreement is that he testify against Rivers, according to prosecutors.
Jones is set for sentencing on April 24. Rivers is set for a two-day trial Nov. 29 and 30.
