Lakeland High School senior Chase Bell has committed to play college football at Ferrum College.
Lakeland’s football team enjoyed a historic year. The team advanced farther than ever in a single season. Because of that, Cavs are being given the opportunity to play at the next level.
Bell is the second Cavs lineman commit in a month.
“This is a year I’ll never forget,” Bell said. “I’m proud of our team and the way we worked and made it to the regional championship. I am very excited to see what lies ahead, though. I’m willing to put in the work and help wherever I can at the next level.”
Ferrum recently wrapped up a 6-4 football season. They are a part of the NCAA Division-III USA South Conference. Bell had interest from other schools but felt Ferrum was the best fit. His uncle also attended the college during the ‘90s.
“They showed interest in me, and I appreciated that,” he said. “When I went on my visit, I felt like I belonged there.”
Bell was a first-team All-Conference 27 selection this season at center. The Lakeland senior was also a second-team 3A East All-Region selection.
Right now, he is currently undecided on a major but has given business administration some thought.
The Lakeland coaches are proud and excited about their seniors being able to get to the next level. Coach Kevin Knight said the program’s goal is to build up young men and give them a chance to further their education.
Bell’s teammate, Riley Richardson, has committed to attend Bridgewater College. A couple more Cavs seniors will be deciding their college futures soon.
