Malachi L. Hargrave III

On Saturday morning, April 1, 2017, the Lord called home to rest, a dear father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, father-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend, Malachi L. Hargrave III. Malachi was born in Norfolk on July 27, 1941, to the late Malachi L. Hargrave Jr. and Naomi (Lyons) Hargrave. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Ethel Mae (Sears) Hargrave.
Malachi was educated in the Suffolk Public Schools system. He worked as a brick-mason for many years, and he retired as an insulator from Newport News Shipbuilding, where he worked for 41 years.
Malachi leaves to cherish his memory three sons, Malachi L. Hargrave IV (Brenda), Antonio Hargrave (Stephanie) and Charles A. Jones Jr. (Rossetta); five daughters, Karen (Kay) Williams, Cristi M. Hargrave, Angela Hargrave, Dianna Hargrave Blick (Henry) and Ellen Jones Darden (Larry); brother, E. Sidney Hargrave; sister-in-law, Margaret A. Sears; 28 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends, whom he loved dearly.
The Hargrave family will receive guests from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. A funeral service will take place at noon on Friday at Centennial Baptist Church, 1910 Atlanta Ave., Portsmouth, VA 23704, and he will be laid to rest at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
