The Suffolk chapter of Les Gemmes presented its first Pre-Mother’s Day Gala on May 6 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Salvation Army Banquet Hall on Bank Street.
The two-hour event was filled with fun activities that included a fashion show, raffle prizes, praise dancing, dinner, presentations and a guest speaker. The motto for the program was: “Millennium Mothers by God’s Design”
Guest speaker Elayne Myrick, first lady of Bethlehem Christian Church, took her message from Jeremiah 29:11 and chose for a subject “It Changed My Life, but It Did Not Change the Plan God Had For My Life.”
Two major presentations from the chapter were made to Evelyn West, a member of the Portsmouth Chapter, for being the founder and sponsor of the Suffolk Chapter in 1977. A presentation was also made to Audrey Knight, the only living Suffolk charter member, on her 40th anniversary in the chapter.
Members of the Suffolk Chapter are Anita Warren, president; Gracie Eure, vice president; Tammy Miller-Williams, secretary; Veronica Evans, assistant secretary; Audrey Knight, treasurer; Gail Copeland, financial secretary; Evelyn Wall, historian and reporter; Adriana Bethel-Hibbler, Brenda Jones, Verjena Jones-Gaynor, Sharon Downs and Deborah Parker.
