Nansemond River High School senior Gerard Stringer has committed to play college football at East Carolina University.
Just before summer preparation for his senior year begins, his recruiting process ramped up recently as he received numerous offers from NCAA Division I schools.
Stinger received offers from the likes of Ohio University, Army, Navy and ECU, along with interest from other major programs. After his visit to ECU, he was offered a scholarship, and shortly after, he decided to make his commitment.
“They really believe in what I want to do,” Stringer said. “The school fits what I am looking for.”
Stringer was looking for a good education and to be able to play his best position. Stringer will be playing outside linebacker once he makes his way to ECU. He spent a lot of time with his family going over the pros and cons of the schools he had been recruited by up to that point.
For his senior year, he has big plans. His goals are to reach 100 tackles, three interceptions, five forced fumbles and score touchdowns. Stringer was an honorable mention for the All-PenSouth teams back in the fall.
“This is a great opportunity for him,” Nansemond River coach David Coccoli said. “We are excited for him and his senior season. He gets to put his college decision behind him and focus on his senior year.”
Stringer plans to major in sports management.
