“Passing away is falling asleep in the Lord.” On Saturday, July 29, 2017, Vivian Whitaker Russell went home to be with our Father in Heaven. She was the daughter of the late Seth and Marian Luke Whitaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, and brother, Clyde.

“Miss Vivian” was a substitute teacher in the Suffolk Public School System and retired as the manager of the Suffolk Lunch Room.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Tamara, Pamela and Marian; brother, Calvin; sister-in-law, Helen Cole; and nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, at Healing Chapel Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Morris Allmond. Interment will be in Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home Inc.
