The 1400 block of Holland Road was expected to be closed for at least part of Saturday after a tractor-trailer struck the train trestle on Friday morning.
The accident was reported at 11:58 a.m., according to a city press release. The tractor-trailer remained on scene, and there were no injuries.
After the accident, traffic used a lane in alternating directions under the trestle. However, the roadway was later completely closed so Norfolk-Southern could check on the safety of the trestle.
Friday afternoon, the city reported that the roadway would remain closed for at least 24 hours as Norfolk-Southern crews inspected and repaired damage to the trestle.
A detour was set up along Lake Cohoon Road for westbound traffic and along Turlington Road for eastbound traffic. Later, the roadway was closed to through traffic at Holland Road and Kilby Shores Lane.
An officer was posted at West Constance Road and West Washington Street to prevent tractor-trailers from detouring along those roadways and providing alternate route information.
On both sides of the detour, only residents and businesses in that area were being allowed to go to their properties.
The closures and detours were subject to change throughout the evening and early morning hours.
