Herbert Lee “Bud” Hawkins Jr., 57, was granted his angel wings on Aug. 31, 2017, surrounded by loved ones.

He worked many years for Blair Bros. He loved the Washington Redskins and fried pork chops.

His life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by him understood the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives — to know him was to love him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Sr. and Julia Hawkins, of Suffolk. He is survived by his longtime friend, Illisa “Bea” Cannon, of Suffolk; his brothers, Curtis Hawkins, Stevie Hawkins and Kerry Hawkins, of Suffolk; his sister, Avis Hawkins, of Alabama; his uncle, Alphonso (Jeanette) Hawkins, of Suffolk; and a host of relatives.
