A man was sentenced Tuesday to 50 years in prison for his involvement in a robbery in which two Suffolk men were allegedly involved.

Deandre Evans Womack was found guilty in April on multiple charges stemming from the Aug. 7, 2016, robbery near the Oceanfront area of Virginia Beach.

Virginia Beach police received a call for a gunshot wound about 2:29 a.m. that Sunday in the 300 block of 22nd Street, according to a press release from the time of the incident. One man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives learned during the investigation that three suspects allegedly targeted the residence and entered it with the intent to commit a robbery, according to the release. During the incident, one of the suspects discharged a weapon, striking another of the suspects.

Michael Scott, 30, of Suffolk, was pronounced dead at the scene, the press release stated.

After the weapon discharged, the other two suspects fled the scene, according to the press release. The responding officers searched the area and allegedly found one of the suspects, 26-year-old Garry Ta’Sheen Hamlin, of Suffolk.

A jury trial for Hamlin is set for Nov. 28.

Womack, who was arrested later, was found guilty of first-degree murder, malicious wounding, conspiracy, wearing a mask in public, attempted robbery, robbery, armed burglary and four counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony.
