After defeating both Nansemond River High School and Lakeland High School in the same week, the Lady Bulldogs girls’ volleyball team took the city title.

The King’s Fork High School girls’ volleyball team is currently on a two-game win streak, and it has come with bragging rights as well. Thursday night, the Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Cavs 3-0 to win the city title. It was a great effort by the Lady Bulldogs, who have been under coach Megan Farabaugh for all of two and a half weeks.

“It is very rewarding to me that they are picking up on the skills I am showing them,” Farabaugh said. “I show them something new, and they immediately try it. I think as a team they just want to get better, and I think they are starting to see a difference in themselves.”

Even the players feel that the wins have been a long time coming.

“We’ve had to deal with a learning curve that most teams haven’t,” Lady Bulldog Jordan Fransee said. “These two wins have given us a lot of confidence to continue to play well. We can only get better from here.”

The Lady Bulldogs are always striving to be better. For future games, they want to pick up the communication on the court among each other. They also want to continue to improve on their passing techniques, such as getting the pass to the setter so they can finish it with a hit. Otherwise, the Lady Bulldogs want to continue to build on their positive attitudes.

Before working on skills, Farabaugh wanted to establish a family atmosphere within her team. Shortly after that, the Lady Bulldogs took their positive energy and put that into their skills to improve. Two wins later, and Farabaugh feels her team is building more confidence with the games that they win.

“They are so much more confident in themselves and in what they are doing,” she said. “They are attempting to block balls. They are attempting to spike and hit the ball. They are doing things that I didn’t see them doing when I first got to the team. They’re just going out there and pushing themselves to their limits.”

KFHS had 14 aces and 17 kills against Lakeland Thursday night. It was a total team effort for King’s Fork.

The Lady Bulldogs will play Indian River High School at home at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Lakeland will face Hickory High School at 7 p.m. that night.
