Lady Knights showing improvement

The Suffolk Christian Academy volleyball team faced off against Greenbrier Christian Academy Monday and showed improvement.

The Lady Knights were not able to get the win, but coach Scott Cornette liked how his team has progressed over the week. SCA remains with only one win on the season, but there was a time after their first win where the team kind of went into a slump. Cornette and the Lady Knights aim to build confidence back up to put the team in position to reach its potential.

GCA defeated SCA 3-0. However, the score wasn’t indicative of how hard the Lady Knights played. In all three sets, they were in it until the end, and they made correctable mistakes.

“The scores do not reflect the improvement they made in communicating and playing as a team,” Cornette said. “I am very proud of their effort despite the score of the game.”

In practice previous to this week, SCA has devoted time to improving on passing and conditioning. Against GCA, they did a good job presenting passes to the setter. The Lady Knights’ attitude as a team also made significant progress. Cornette mentioned that there was some changing he needed to do as a coach to make sure he instilled more confidence in his players instead of harping on mistakes.

“Here’s the thing about mistakes: when you make a mistake, everyone knows you made it,” Cornette said. “There is no need for me to repeat on getting on anyone about it. So, I focus on encouraging the players and let them know I’m sticking with them and putting them in the best possible position to be successful.”

Suffolk Christian will play again at 5 p.m. Monday against Gateway Christian Academy at Wilroy Baptist Church.
