Lady Warriors top Western Branch

The Nansemond River High School field hockey team defeated Western Branch High School 2-1 on the road Monday afternoon.

The Lady Warriors have been catching their stride in recent games. They have gotten solid wins against good teams in the Southeastern District, but overall, the Lady Warriors have had a tough schedule this year.

They are currently on a two-game win streak with wins over Western Branch and Grassfield high schools. Coach Allison Dize has reminded her team that each game they need to be aggressive and win every ball. That will come in handy this week, as the Lady Warriors are slated for three games.

“I was satisfied with how the team started off the week this week,” Dize said. “With three games this week, I told them either we are going to start off the week on a good note or it is going to be a long one.”

Dize also mentioned how Monday games can be a toss-up because you never know how a team may come out after a weekend. Keeping the right mindset and keeping legs fresh will be key to the Lady Warriors being successful this week.

“We are going to need to push each other and keep each other up,” Dize said.

Nansemond River will face Indian River High School at home at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
