Polling place changed for coming election

Voters in one Sleepy Hole Borough precinct will need to go to a different location to cast their ballots this November.

The Belleharbour precinct will vote at Temple Beth-El, 3927 Bridge Road, rather than at the usual location, the Church of God and Saints of Christ, at 4300 Judah Lane.

City Council approved the emergency change at its Sept. 20 meeting.

General Registrar Susan Saunders said in a report at the meeting she had been notified Aug. 18 that Church of God and Saints of Christ will be unusable for the election due to construction. On Aug. 28, she and others met at Temple Beth-El to evaluate its ability to be used as a polling place.

She pointed out the ample parking area, which includes an entire row of handicapped parking closest to the building, glass doors that will allow election officers to watch for people who may need ballots taken to their cars, and a closed-off area inside that will allow the voting to stay separate from the rest of the building.

Councilman Roger Fawcett, who represents the Sleepy Hole Borough, made the motion to approve the change. It was seconded by Councilman Mike Duman.

“I think this is a very adequate and suitable location,” Duman said.

The change was approved unanimously.

Election Day is Nov. 7.
