Lakeland High School suffered its fourth loss on Friday, falling to Western Branch High School on the road.

The Cavs’ offense put up 34 points Friday night, but they fell short of a win, losing 38-34. The loss puts Lakeland’s record at 1-4.

Lakeland applied pressure to Western Branch early in the first quarter, putting 22 points on the board. It was not an easy win for the Bruins.

“The guys played extremely hard, and I am proud of the effort they gave,” Lakeland coach Kevin Knight said. “We had an up-tempo offense going that worked for us early, and we were able to put points on the board.”

Tyquan Holloman totaled three touchdowns in the first quarter alone, with two passing and one rushing. Knight was impressed with the way Holloman played Friday night and said he believes the junior is the best quarter in the area.

Holloman finished with five touchdowns. Damontra Hawkins had more than 100 yards receiving, and Deondre Little added multiple scores.

“Tyquan played lights-out football,” Knight said. “That was the best I saw him play in three years. I really believe he is the best quarterback in the area of the 757. The way he played was pretty impressive.”

A couple of mishaps may have cost the Cavs the game. There was a blown coverage, and there were also missed tackles by players who were in position. Overall, Knight felt like the effort was there. Knight believes the loss brought the team closer together.

“I’m so proud of those guys I don’t know what to do,” he said. “We are going to look at the film and bounce back and try to get this thing going.”

Lakeland will take on Deep Creek High School on the road Friday at 7 p.m.
