There were no ifs, ands or Butts about the Bulldogs running back’s four-touchdown performance in King’s Fork’s 28-7 win on Friday.

King’s Fork High School has now improved to 6-1 after the home victory over Indian River High School on the strength of Darran Butts’ stellar performance.

Indian River also came into Friday night’s matchup with only one loss. A rainy night was not going to stop the Bulldogs from being the victors Friday. An ecstatic Scottie Littles was excited about the way his team performed despite the weather.

“The weather slowed us down a bit offensively, but I’m so proud of my kids,” Littles said. “I’m just so proud of their willingness to fight through adversity. We talk about our goals on the regular, and each week we are trying to get better.”

Butts led the way for the Bulldogs with 192 yards and four touchdowns. Butts had three touchdowns of 20-plus yards. Defensively, the Bulldogs remained stout. In the last three games, the Bulldogs have allowed opponents to score a combined 20 points. At 6-1, it is the best start for the King’s Fork football team in school history.

“Our kids are playing well, and they are playing hard and are accepting coaching,” Littles said. “Most importantly is that these guys are having fun. Having fun is one thing that can be lost at times, and I’m happy for them.”

The Bulldogs defense has found its rhythm. Offenses are having a tough time getting things going against the Bulldogs. Indian River was held to fewer than 100 total yards. With the five-game winning streak the Bulldogs are on right now, they are not satisfied.

“I don’t think it is anything we are doing special as a coaching staff. It’s these kids that are getting it down,” Littles said. “I’m just happy they are letting us be a part of this.”

King’s Fork will be getting ready for a rival this coming week in Lakeland High School. With a win over Lakeland, King’s Fork can take the city championship.

“Lakeland is a good team,” Littles said. “They gave us a run for our money last year. Each week it is a tough matchup in the Southeastern District.”
