Fall is here, and families can bring their children to Chuckatuck this Saturday for seasonal fun that’s safe, free and costume-friendly.

Suffolk Public Library staff will have its first Harvest Fest at Chuckatuck Library, 5881 Godwin Blvd., from noon to 3 p.m. this Saturday. The event was inspired by the success of the library’s Trunk or Treat at Morgan Memorial library last year, which drew hundreds of children for safe trick-or-treating.

Trunk or Treat will kickstart the festivities on Saturday with organizations such as Suffolk Parks and Recreation and businesses like Chick-fil-A on College Drive providing vehicles loaded with candy. The kids get to enjoy the season, and parents can be assured their children stay safe.

“They’re able to trick-or-treat safely with companies and organizations throughout Suffolk,” said library services coordinator Shawna LoMonaco.

Local musician Amy Kaus will play guitar as families decorate pumpkins provided by Lilley Farms. Prizes will be at stake in the pumpkin-decorating and costume contests.

Children will enjoy candy apples as they watch the cult-classic Halloween film “Hocus Pocus” on the Library2Go mobile’s outdoor flat screen. There will also be a cornhole tournament, an obstacle course of cardboard boxes and pool noodles for preschoolers, and other games for families.

“It’s a day full of family-friendly activities,” LoMonaco said. “It’s kind of non-stop. I just hope they’re prepared to have fun.”
