The Lady Warriors volleyball team got a 3-0 win over Lakeland High School on the road Tuesday evening.

Nansemond River High School’s girls’ volleyball team got back in the win column with the victory. With only a couple of games left in the regular season, this win was good for the Lady Warriors to build confidence heading into the playoffs.

The Lady Warriors had been searching for a win after having close games over the past week, most notably a 3-2 loss to Indian River High School. Coach Nikka Gatling likes how her team has been playing as of late and is hoping they can clean some things up soon. One thing the Lady Warriors struggle with is beating themselves.

“Sometimes we get down on ourselves and think it’s the end of the world,” Gatling said. “Sometimes they may be mad at themselves, and I am not even mad at them. It is all about the girls believing in themselves and not getting down on themselves when things do not go our way. We can’t play perfect, even though we want to.”

It can be looked at as somewhat of a gift and a curse wanting to be perfect all the time. However, Gatling is hoping to see her team shrug off the mishaps more often than not.

Lauren Lacy had a strong game serving for Nansemond River. Nansemond River will face its other rival King’s Fork High School at home for senior night at 6 p.m. Thursday. Lakeland’s team, which remains winless, will face Indian River at home at 6 p.m. Thursday.
