Nansemond River High School went to 4-4 on the season after a 28-7 loss to Deep Creek High School on the road Friday night.

Playing Deep Creek is a tough feat in itself, as they are currently 7-1 on the season. It was going to take an all-around effort for the Warriors to be able to pull that win off on the road.

Nansemond River received the ball to start the game but was unable to do much on its first possession. Deep Creek did not waste any time with its first possession, completing a 73-yard touchdown. Nansemond River ended the first quarter down 14-0 after Deep Creek broke off a 50-yard rushing touchdown.

In the second quarter, Rashaad Williams scooped a fumble up for the Warriors. However, the Warriors weren’t able to get on the board before the half and went into halftime still down 14-0.

Nansemond River finally got on the scoreboard in the third quarter after Kori Riddick completed a 45-yard pass to Gerard Stringer to cut the lead by half. Unfortunately for the Warriors, that was their only score of the game. Deep Creek scored two more times to build their lead and take the home win.

Riddick finished with 97 yards passing and a touchdown, and Stringer finished with 57 yards receiving and a touchdown.

“We did not come out and play our best football,” Warrior Wali Faulk said. “They were fired up, but we are going to bounce back though.”

At 4-4, the Warriors are set to take on Great Bridge High School on the road next.
