James Pierce Horton, 77, of Windsor, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 27, 2017. Born in Nansemond County, he was the son of the late Eldridge Horton, Martha (Gray) Horton, and the late Lillian James King Horton Cobb Turner of Norfolk.

He retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation in Suffolk after 36 years as a mechanic. He was a faithful member of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty Stephenson Horton; a son, David Horton (Michelle); daughters, Annette Bradshaw (Brad) and Angel Darden (Shawn), all of Windsor; grandchildren, Katie Babb (Jamie), Gavin Horton (Tiffany Rapp, girlfriend), Troy Horton, Austin Darden and Blake Darden; brothers, Douglas Horton (Brenda), of Richmond, and Jerry Horton, of North Carolina. James loved his children and grandchildren dearly.

A funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Steve Bradshaw at Tucker Swamp Baptist Church on Monday, Oct. 30, 2017, at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Central Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., in Suffolk, on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, from 3 to 5 p.m.
