Police are investigating after a man was hit by a stray bullet on Sunday afternoon.

The incident was reported at 3:52 p.m. The man was standing near the Big City Church at 4165 Pruden Blvd., near the College and Career Academy at Pruden.

There is a wooded area and fields nearby, according to a city press release. Gunshots had been reported in the area earlier in the day, but it is unknown if hunters were in the area or if people were target shooting, the press release stated.

The man was taken by ground ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening, according to the release.

The investigation is ongoing.
