Betty Lou White Worrell, 79, of 638 Lackey Mountain Road, and formerly of Suffolk, and the Arrowhead Beach community of Chowan County, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, at the home of her daughter in Harmony.

Mrs. Worrell was born in Gates County on Jan. 23, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Mildred Rountree White. A retired teacher in the Virginia Public School System, she was a member of Hiddenite Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 54 years, Joseph Robert “Bobby” Worrell, and by her brother, Harvey White.

Surviving are four daughters, Therese` Evans, of Claremont, Deborah Nunez and husband, Fern, of Carrollton, Linda White and husband, Ernest, of Harmony, and Brenda Gaither, of Hiddenite; a son, Mike Worrell and wife, Donna, of Moyock; a sister, Willie Marie Barnes, of Norfolk; 13 grandchildren, Justin, Joshua, Jeremy, Timmy, Christopher, Krystal, Lauren, Tyler, Preston, Garrett, Kayleigh, Alan Michael and Casey; six great-grandchildren, Alexis, Elaina, Gabriella, Parker, Ryleigh and Raelyn; and several special nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, and will be conducted by her former pastor, Dr. James Horton. The private burial will be next to her husband in the Middle Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home the hour prior to services.

Another memorial service will be held in the Hiddenite Baptist Church on Saturday, Nov. 25, at 4 p.m. and will be conducted by Pastor Zachary Deal.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Gordon Hospice, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625, or to any local hospice organization or chapter of the American Cancer Society.
