Voters adjust at Temple Beth El

Suffolk voters in the Belleharbour precinct cast their ballots on Tuesday at a different location than in previous years.

Ballots were cast at Temple Beth El at 3927 Bridge Road and not at Church of God and Saints of Christ at 4300 Judah Lane, the previous location for Belleharbour voters. City council approved the emergency change at its Sept. 20 meeting.

General Registrar Susan Saunders said in a report at the meeting she had been notified Aug. 18 that Church of God and Saints of Christ would be unusable for the election due to construction.

Belleharbour precinct voter Ty Campbell said it seemed odd to have another voting location so close to one at Suffolk Police Precinct 2 just down the road. He added, however, that Temple Beth El was convenient for him.

“This is right around the corner,” he said. “I could walk to this one.”

Kristan Pettiford said she was notified of the change well ahead of the election and had no issues with voting at Temple Beth El.

“I didn’t have to do anything; they just sent me the card,” Pettiford said.
