An annual food drive by two regional radio stations will return to Suffolk next weekend.

Stations WAFX and WNOR will host the 21st annual Mayflower Marathon Food Drive Nov. 17-19 at four separate locations in Hampton Roads. Donors in Suffolk can drop off their contributions at First Team Subaru Kia, located at 4834 Bridge Road.

This will be the third year the car dealership has served as a convenient site for Suffolk donors. The addition of a Williamsburg collection site will also increase the total number of locations in Hampton Roads compared to previous years, according to Sonja Morrell, marketing director for WAFX and WNOR.

“We’re looking to make it even bigger and better than in years past,” Morrell said.

She said enough food and money was collected between the three locations last year to cover 652,000 meals.

“We are so thankful for the generosity of our listeners and clients,” Mike Beck, brand manager for WAFX and WNOR, stated in a press release. “Their donations of food, money, materials and time make a positive difference in the lives of people throughout Hampton Roads.”

All food and monetary donations in Suffolk will go to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, according to the press release. Along with non-perishables, frozen turkeys are in high demand this year, Morrell said.

“I’ve seen people show up with trunks full of turkeys before,” she said. “It’s really amazing. It’s everybody working together to help the food bank help those that need it.”

Donations will be accepted from 5:30 a.m. on Nov. 17 to 3 p.m. on Nov. 19. Visit fm99.com or 1069thefox.com for more information.
