Senior Camary Harris made her college commitment official by signing her National Letter of Intent Monday afternoon.

The King’s Fork High School senior = committed to play college basketball at Bethune-Cookman University back in August.

“I feel like a whole lot of weight has been lifted off of my shoulders,” Harris said after making the commitment official. “I can go ahead and have a great senior year without any worries.”

BCU is an NCAA Division-I school in Florida that is a part of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. While Harris will be going to school more than eight hours away from Suffolk, she will get to play close to home at least twice a year. Hampton University and Norfolk State University are both in the same conference, so Harris will be able to play in front of friends and family at least twice a year. Also, the MEAC tournament is held in Norfolk, which will also provide another opportunity to play close to home.

Harris described BCU as a family environment, and she wanted to be a part of such a strong women’s basketball program. They finished first in the MEAC standings last year. She also felt confident being in the hands of the BCU coaching staff over the next few years.

At BCU, Harris plans to major in sports medicine. Two games into this season, BCU is 2-0.

Harris will help the Lady Bulldogs try to return to the state championship game after a historic season last year. The Lady Bulldogs made it to the state championship for the first time in school history back in March. In a questionable call, referees ruled a last-second shot by Harris came after the buzzer, which resulted in King’s Fork losing 60-59.

The senior will be among the crop of top guards returning in the area this season, which is a couple of weeks away from starting.
