Lauren Meyers and Sarah Christiansen were selected to the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association all-state teams from the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy field hockey team.

Meyers was selected to the first team, while Christiansen was selected to the second team.

Christiansen had 103 saves on the season, with 28 goals against her. She played 14 full games with five shutouts. Her save percentage was 0.785, and her goals against average was 1.87.

A goal of Christiansen’s was to make the all-state team, and she was very happy to learn she was selected.

Meyers, who was shocked to hear she was chosen, scored seven goals to go along with 11 assists. She led the team in assists and was second in scoring.

“It was all such a wonderful surprise,” Meyers said. “I definitely wouldn’t have received this without the help of my teammates.”

“This was definitely something I had been working towards,” Christiansen said. “It is exciting, and I am proud of myself. It also makes me excited for our next season to see where our team goes as a whole.”

NSA finished the season 10-5-1, and Meyers described it as one of the best seasons the Lady Saints have had in a while. The players feel they have improved.

Coach Shelby Bourn started shortly before the season started and coached the team to a state playoff home game.

“Hosting a state playoff game was a big deal,” Meyers said. “Even though we did not end how we hoped, everyone was satisfied with our season. We did the best we could and left it all out on the field.”

Christiansen and Meyers both were first team All-Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools selections as well. Both players will return for next year.
