Five displaced in fire

A family of five was displaced in a fire at their home early Tuesday.

Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews were called to the home in the 6100 block of Old Townpoint Road at 2:03 a.m., according to a city press release. They arrived at 2:12 a.m. to find smoke showing from the rear of the home and the front door of the two-story residence. The residents had already evacuated.

Firefighters were able to knock down the kitchen fire quickly, the press release stated. The cause was ruled an accidental cooking fire.

The three adults and two children were displaced and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. One adult was taken to a local hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
