Worker injured in accident

A worker was injured in an industrial accident when the forklift she was operating overturned on Friday morning.

The accident happened at 9:47 a.m., according to a city press release. Police and rescue workers were called to the Navy Exchange Service Command Distribution Center in the 1000 block of Kenyon Court.

Preliminary investigation found the woman was injured while operating a forklift that overturned and fell approximately five feet to the ground from a loading dock.

The victim was restrained by her seatbelt and had to be rescued from the overturned equipment. Firefighters treated her for injuries, including cleaning off battery acid that had leaked onto her from the forklift.

She was taken by ground ambulance to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
