Iva Scott Mitchell

Iva Scott Mitchell, affectionately known as “Scottie,” entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at her residence. She was born on June 11, 1945, in Holland, to the late Laura Jean Green and Joseph Scott.

Iva graduated from Southwestern High School in 1963 and attended Kee’s Business School. She retired from Suffolk Public Schools after 35 years of dedicated service.

Iva was a member of PHILO-Gamma Omega Chapter Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., Suffolk Chapter of the American Red Cross, Retired Teachers Association, and Douglas Park Reunion Committee.

She was a former member of Tabernacle Christian Church.

Iva is survived by her husband, Jon E. Mitchell; brother, William Scott (Mary); sister, Bernice Nicholson; godchildren, KaRon Smith and Kiera Smith; and a host of family and friends.

Mrs. Mitchell’s visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. A funeral will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Balm Church East Campus, and she will be laid to rest at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
