Bulldogs take tough road win

King’s Fork High School’s boys’ basketball team grabbed a road win against Deep Creek High School Friday night.

The win brought Coach Rick Hite and the Bulldogs to 3-0 this season. King’s Fork defeated the Hornets 81-77 to continue rolling under their new coach. Deep Creek is a tough environment to play in, and they have an exceptional team this year. The Bulldogs were able to overcome Caleb Butts’ 38 points and 20 rebounds to remain undefeated.

“I feel happy for my kids,” Hite said. “They went into a really tough environment against a well-coached team and were able to get one in a tough conference on the road. You have to be happy when you get those kind of wins.”

In the first half, Hite felt like they took too many three-pointers while also being unable to contain Butts. In the second half, the Bulldogs became more aggressive and had to dig deep for the win.

King’s Fork believes in the talent they possess, but many thought the Bulldogs were going to go through an adjustment period. However, Hite believes his team feels it has a lot to prove every night.

“Some teams have a chip on their shoulder; some teams have a boulder on their shoulder,” Hite said. “Our guys have a mountain on their shoulder, and that is our approach. We are expecting to come out every night and compete. We have an edge to us.”

The Bulldogs are happy to be 3-0 but know they can’t rest. Like in football, the Southeastern District is a tough district full of talented basketball teams. Every night, the Bulldogs will have to bring their best if they want to remain in the top half of the district.

Leontre Bailey led the Bulldogs with 19 points, and James Hatton added 14 points for the Bulldogs. Four Bulldogs finished in double figures. King’s Fork faced Grassfield High School on the road Tuesday.
