Celebrate New Year’s Eve downtown

The Nansemond River Pilot Club is inviting revelers throughout Hampton Roads to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Suffolk.
The club’s second annual New Year’s Eve Bash will be at the Hilton Garden Inn Suffolk Riverfront, 100 E. Constance Road, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. The fundraiser will offer a full course buffet dinner, dancing with a DJ and cash bar, and a champagne toast at midnight.
According to vice president Becky Adams, club members are planning to have a live stream of the ball drop in New York City that will be displayed via projector this year.
“We’ll get to count down with New York City,” Adams said.
The hotel will also offer discounted room rates that evening.
“You can come, have fun and not worry about driving home,” Adams said.
She said that the event allows Suffolk residents to stay local rather than drive across Hampton Roads for New Year’s Eve fun. It’s also a beacon for more revelers to come to Suffolk.
“It’s local, but it also broadcasts out for people outside of the Suffolk area to come as well,” she said.
The club’s first New Year’s Eve bash drew about 80 sharply dressed celebrators, she said. Their goal is to sell at least 150 tickets this year.
The money will go towards helping people with brain-related disorders and disabilities through education, volunteerism and financial support.
“We raise money through fundraising events like this to give back to the community in the ways they give back to us,” Adams said.
Tickets are $50 each and can be purchased at Suffolk Insurance, 202 Market St., or the Suffolk Visitor Center, 524 N. Main St.
