Ann Tarkington Rogers Michaluk

Ann Tarkington Rogers Michaluk, 97, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at Dominion Village of Chesapeake, surrounded by her family.

She was predeceased by her parents, Noah W. and Nora Vick Tarkington; five brothers, Denver P. Tarkington, Samuel V. Tarkington, Edward H. Tarkington, William W. Tarkington and Frank C. Tarkington; two sisters, Norma T. Gardner and Elenora Tarkington; husband, Harold P. Rogers and Simon J. Michaluk; and her grandson, Anthony Ferro.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Maxine Rogers Schiffman, writer, and husband, David, of Rheinbeck, N.Y.; son, Harold Parker Rogers Jr., motivational speaker, and wife, Delores, from Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, John Ferro and wife, Denise, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; Christian Rogers and wife, Andressa, from Los Angeles, Calif.; two great-grandchildren, Nica Ferro and Nolon Ferro; one sister, Letty T. Solomon, from Virginia Beach; and niece, Letty Gardner Hernly, whom she loved as her own daughter.

Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Coming from a large family that was filled with love, she passed that love on to her extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and the wives and husbands of her siblings.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Portsmouth for more than 73 years, where she was a Sunday school and Bible school teacher. Ann and her husband, Harold, were also active with the youth group.

Having lived in the Green Meadow Point subdivision for more than 50 years, she loved so many of her neighbors like family and formed lifetime friendships. For many years, she was an active member of the Green Meadow Point Garden Club.

Dancing was always a part of her life; she was an extremely talented dancer and danced all over the world. Ann was an active member of the Bachelors Club, Shrine Club and Portsmouth Cotillion.

She was an avid world traveler! Among her favorite places to visit were Paris, Hawaii and Manhattan.

A funeral celebrating the life of Ann T.R. Michaluk will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 20, 2017, in the First Presbyterian Church, 515 Court St., Portsmouth, VA 23704 by Dr. Steven E. Frazier. A private family burial will take place on Thursday at Liberty Spring Christian Church. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, is serving the family.
