Suffolk Public Schools has released proposals for redrawing the lines of the district’s school attendance zones.

The district plans to open two new schools in September 2018. The new Florence Bowser Elementary School will house 1,000 students, while the new Col. Fred Cherry Middle School will house 800 students.

Proposals have been posted on the school division website. For the elementary and middle school levels, there are two proposals: one that simply creates an attendance zone for the new school and relieves pressure on nearby schools, and one that rezones the entire district.

For high schools, a rezoning proposal for the entire district also has been posted.

For all three levels, the current attendance zones also are posted for comparison.

The School Board will hold a public comment session on the plans at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 11. A formal presentation of the plans will be made at the Feb. 8 meeting, with a vote expected on March 8.
